Our Story

John and Jacque Mahony are the owners of Salmon Creek Farms. John relocated to Humboldt County in the early 1970's after graduating from UC Berkeley, and started Salmon Creek Farms in 1976. In partnership with his wife, Jacque, the couple have grown the family farm from only a few wild plants spread below the Redwood canopy into a cannabis cultivation center spanning several gardens. John has been growing organic sun grown sinsemilla (seedless) cannabis since he moved to rural Southern Humboldt County Northern California and purchased 20 acres of undeveloped property in 1971.  John planted his first cannabis garden in 1976 and John’s outdoor cannabis farming survived the persecution of the 70s, 80s and 90s.  Their farm includes Jacque’s award winning Boar Goats, Chickens, Geese and Rabbits as well as an acre of their renowned premium bud, genetically descendant from original varieties grown from seed and brought from Afghanistan in the 1970s. John and Jacque are proud of the fact that they have been getting their hands dirty for 50 years. They love tending the soil and working in the sun and bringing to market the world famous Humboldt cannabis. Though the Farm’s primary focus has been cannabis, it’s also a reflection of John and Jacque’s unique interests and strong commitment to land management. Goats, ducks, geese, and of course our dog Mia are only a few of Jacque’s animals that greet you as you enter onto the property. The houses and barns on the farm were designed and constructed utilizing lumber milled from the property. This dedication to self reliance through hard work and strict attention to detail is what continues to make the farm successful today. Salmon Creek Farms serves as a positive model of sustainable family farming. Though the cannabis industry has changed significantly since the inception of Salmon Creek Farms in 1976, we are still committed to growing the highest quality product in an ecologically and environmentally responsible way.
